Doug joined the Topeka Chamber and GO Topeka staff in August, 2001. During his tenure, the Chamber has grown over 30% in membership, winning the Top Ten Membership Award from ACCE, the national professional development association for Chambers. In addition, a major economic development program has been initiated through the resources of a local option sales tax which has resulted in nearly 10,000 quality jobs created or retained through the Chamber/GO Topeka efforts.
Doug is a native of Grundy Center, Iowa, and earned a bachelors from the University of Northern Iowa (1981). He's a graduate of the Institute for Organizational Management sponsored by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce; a graduate of the Academy for Advanced Organizational Management at Notre Dame University; a graduate of the Basic Economic Development Institute produced by the American Economic Development Council; and a graduate of the Center for Creative Leadership, a corporate leadership program in Greensboro, North Carolina. He is also the recipient of the Certified Chamber Executive (CCE) designation.
Prior to coming to Topeka, he served as president of the Pensacola (FL) Area Chamber of Commerce (1997-2001); as president of the San Angelo (TX) Chamber of Commerce (1990-1997); as president of the Duncanville (TX) Chamber of Commerce (1984-1990); as executive vice president at the Beatrice (NE) Chamber of Commerce (1982-1984) and as community affairs manager and membership director at the Waterloo (IA) Chamber of Commerce (1979-1982).
Doug served as the 2007-2008 chairman of the board of the American Chamber of Commerce Executives and is active locally with Visit Topeka, Inc., Downtown Topeka, Inc, Kansas Calvary, Heartland Works, Heartland Visioning, the Governor's Military Council and the Topeka/Shawnee County Riverfront Authority.
He received the Business Communicator of the Year Award (2006) from International Association of Business Communicators - Topeka Chapter; the Chairman's Leadership Award from the American Chamber of Commerce Executives (2004) and the Chamber Executive of the Year award (1996) from the Chamber of Commerce Executives Association of West Texas.
Doug has been married to Rebecca Kinsinger for 33 years. They have two sons, Adam,18, who attends Creighton University, and Alex, 16.
